All physicians practicing in New Brunswick must be registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and be members of the New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS).
The College of Physicians and Surgeons is primarily responsible for the licensing of New Brunswick physicians, monitoring physician practices and investigating when a patient files a complaint against a physician.
The New Brunswick Medical Society is the professional association for all physicians in New Brunswick and is a provincial division of the Canadian Medical Association. Originally created in 1867, the NBMS has a two-part mission: to represent and service all practicing and future physicians in the province, and to advocate for the health of New Brunswickers.
