SHIPPAGAN (CNB) – The New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre in Shippagan announced the opening of its 29th tourist season, which will run until Sept. 24.

Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp made the announcement today.

"The invitation has gone out," said Olscamp. "The New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre is a must-see tourist attraction, and the latest additions for this year will have you plunging into the aquatic world and into the traditional occupation of fishing in the region."

This year, first-time and return visitors will notice the newly renovated lobby and the new marine biology discovery area, Hydrosphere. The main purpose of this educational space, with content based on the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development school curriculum, is to teach young visitors about the characteristics of marine organisms.

The 2011 season will also feature activity days such as the World Oceans Day on Wednesday, June 8, Fisheries and Aquaculture Day on Friday, July 15, and Kids' Day on Sunday, Aug. 21.

The centre is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. More information is online.
