SHIPPAGAN (GNB) – Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet will join industry representatives and members of the public at the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre in Shippagan today for Fisheries and Aquaculture Day.

The annual event is part of the New Brunswick Fisheries and Aquaculture Festival.

“Our fisheries, aquaculture and agriculture sectors are key components of our provincial economy, creating jobs and growing the economy in our rural and coastal communities,” said Doucet. “This festival is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the importance of these industries and to show our appreciation to the people who work in them.”

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet staff from the marine centre and tour booths, where local producers and processors will offer free samples of their products. The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is one of several organizations to host an information kiosk during the day. The department’s Buy Local initiative is also represented.

The day’s events will include activities for children and musical performances. The theme of the day is From the Lab to Your Plate.

“New Brunswick’s agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries products are some of the best in the world,” said Doucet. “I congratulate all those New Brunswickers who work hard to confirm that reputation.”
