FREDERICTON (GNB) - New Brunswick producers are invited to comment on the next federal, provincial, and territorial agriculture policy framework, set to launch April 1, 2018.

Through an online and traditional survey, the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is collecting feedback on the framework this month. Input received will help the department develop non-business risk management programming and initiatives for the next framework, which will succeed Growing Forward 2.

“The current Growing Forward 2 programs were tailored to meet the needs of New Brunswick farmers and focus on innovation, competitiveness and market development,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet. “I encourage our producers to weigh in on the next framework.”

Producers are invited to provide input on the importance of programs or initiatives for the following priority areas:

  • markets and trade;
  • science, research and innovation;
  • environmental sustainability and climate change;
  • value-added agriculture and agri-food processing; and
  • public trust.

These areas are outlined in the Calgary Statement, released by federal, provincial and territorial ministers of agriculture in July 2016.

Agriculture has been identified as a key growth opportunity in the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan.
