Overview

The objective of Stewardship is to create and coordinate strategies and initiatives to reduce the impacts of agriculture on the environment and to support the total development and sustainability of the agriculture industry in New Brunswick.

Eligibility

Agricultural producers and agricultural associations (both general and commodity based)

Description

Delivery of Stewardship activities is through a team of provincial specialists that provide recommendations to individual producers and producer groups on the assessment and management of soil, fertilizers, nutrients, manure, and amendments for agricultural land use. Cooperation is provided to farm organizations and Agriculture and Agri-food Canada in the implementation of evaluation and demonstration projects involving various crops and locations through the province. Recommendations are provided regarding land use issues that impact on, or are impacted by, agricultural activities.

Staff of the Stewardship section is also responsible for the Agricultural Operation Practices Act and the Agricultural Land Protection and Development Act.
