ELSIPOGTOG FIRST NATION (GNB) – Trades teachers and other volunteers are partnering with Elsipogtog First Nation to build a home for a family in need.
“Trades are an important aspect of our economy and we are working to improve learning in trades,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Dominic Cardy. “We are very pleased to work together with Elsipogtog First Nation to support the housing needs of the community, all while engaging in a valuable professional learning experience which will ultimately be of great benefit to students.”
Construction is scheduled to begin on Aug. 20 and the exterior is expected to be complete by Aug. 23.
Trades teachers from across the province have volunteered their time to work with members of the community to construct the house. This allows novice and experienced trades teachers to exercise their carpentry skills and learn from one another.
“Sharing our knowledge and skills to help others is something to be proud of,” said Aboriginal Affairs Minister Jake Stewart. “I commend the teachers and volunteers for supporting this partnership with Elsipogtog and for making a long-lasting difference to a family in need.”
Previous projects include the construction of a tiny home at Welamukotuk (Oromocto First Nation) in 2017, and a two-bedroom energy efficient home at Natoagenag (Eel Ground First Nation) in 2018.
