FREDERICTON (GNB) – Spring weight restrictions will be lifted from all New Brunswick highways on Sunday, May 12.

"Spring weight restrictions will be removed at midnight on May 12 in southern New Brunswick as well as in northern New Brunswick," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. "This is one week earlier than anticipated in northern New Brunswick."

Weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year to protect highways from damage during the spring thaw. Traditionally, these restrictions are removed in mid-May.

Should weather conditions warrant, district engineers are authorized to close roads to trucks or to impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time.
