FLORENCEVILLE-BRISTOL (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant hosted an Opportunities Summit for the provincial transportation sector today in Florenceville-Bristol.

“Our government recognizes the importance of the transportation sector to our economy,” said Gallant. “Our integrated multimodal transportation system enables existing and new businesses to grow and is just one more way New Brunswick is working to create the climate for job creation and economic growth.”

The transportation and warehousing sector employs 19,200 people and represents 5.5 per cent of all jobs in the province. New Brunswick exports more than $12 billion in merchandise. This sector contributes nearly $1.3 billion to the province’s GDP.

“This summit was an important forum for government, business and industry to discuss new opportunities to improve the transportation system in our province,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson.

Opportunities Summits are taking place around the province to identify new prospects for creating jobs and economic growth. The opportunities identified will be reviewed and evaluated for development as part of an economic action plan for the province.
