EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – About $1.7 million will be invested in road upgrades in four municipalities in the Madawaska region.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson today announced upgrades for Edmundston, Baker-Brook, Saint-François de Madawaska and Saint-Hilaire.

“Our government is proud to invest in these projects under the Municipal Designated Highway Program,” said Melanson. “These investments will provide a safe and reliable transportation network and stimulate the economy by creating jobs and moving New Brunswick forward.”

Upgrades include:

  • in Edmundston – paving a 0.6-km section of Route 120 (Saint-François Street), from civic number 641 to Rossignol Street and paving of about 1.2 km of Canada Road, from civic number 33 to 69 and from civic number 459 to 659;
  • in Baker-Brook – paving of a 1.3-km section of Cyr Street, from civic number 138 to the village limit;
  • in Saint-François de Madawaska – repairing the storm sewer and paving sections of routes 215 and 205; and
  • in Saint-Hilaire – installing a storm sewer Route 120, from Lapointe Street to Fournier Street.

Under the Municipal Designated Highway Program, municipalities apply to the provincial government for funding assistance for capital upgrades. The province provides $25 million in funding each year for priority projects.
