NEGUAC (GNB) – The provincial government will help fund paving and the installation of storm sewers in Neguac this year under the Municipal Designated Highway program.

“Your government recognizes the importance of partnering with municipalities to make strategic investments in transportation infrastructure,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “We are listening to New Brunswickers and we are getting things done.”

The Village of Neguac will contribute part of the cost of installing storm sewers and paving a 1.8-kilometre stretch of Robichaud Street. Under the program, municipalities apply for funding assistance for capital upgrade projects. The government received more than $210-million in funding requests through the program this year.

Funding for the Municipal Designated Highway Program has more than doubled since the 2014-15 fiscal year, increasing to $25 million in 2015. It has remained at that level as part of a government commitment to sustain funding for municipalities.

“The Village of Neguac appreciates the assistance of the provincial government in improving our municipal roads,” said Neguac Mayor Georges Savoie. “Communities like Neguac need provincial support to maintain our roads and keep our local economy moving forward.”

The province’s $775.6-million capital budget, which includes the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s capital budget of $638.5 million, reflects the government’s priority to support its buildings, highways and bridges.

Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework for growing the economy and creating jobs.
