BAS-CARAQUET (GNB) – The provincial government will complete several paving projects in the Caraquet region this year.

A 1.3 kilometre section of Route 320, from the Grande Anse village limit towards Frigault Lane, will be paved as will a 700 metre section of Pokesudie Road. The provincial government will also jointly fund two kilometres of paving in Bas-Caraquet this year under the Municipal Designated Highway Program.

“Your government is committed to creating jobs, growing the economy and investing in communities,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “Strategic investments in infrastructure make it easier and more efficient to transport people and goods, fuelling economic growth in all parts of New Brunswick.”

A tender has been awarded for the Route 320 paving project, with a successful bid of $547,000 being accepted. A tender will be issued this month for the Pokesudie Road paving project.

The Municipal Designated Highway project on St. Paul Street in Bas Caraquet is valued at $634,000 and has been tendered.

”This investment from the provincial government is good news for our village and the region,” said Bas-Caraquet Mayor Agnès Doiron. “As a tourist area, we rely on well-maintained infrastructure to help our residents get where they need to go, and to encourage visitors to return to our community.”

Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework for growing the economy and creating jobs.
