NEW DENMARK (GNB) – Two roads in New Denmark, the Mill Hill Road and Route 108, recently reopened to full traffic following significant repairs.
“Your government recognizes that safe, reliable, modern infrastructure is essential to economic growth,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “We are investing strategically in transportation infrastructure to ensure that rural New Brunswickers can get where they need to go and keep the economy running smoothly.”
On Mill Hill Road, which had been closed to traffic since 2014 after a washout, the department funded the reconstruction of the failed portion of the road. On Route 108, which connects the western side of the province with the east, a 1.1 kilometre section was realigned and upgraded. This work was completed as part of the province’s $775.6 million 2017-18 capital budget.
The provincial government recently tabled its 2018-19 capital budget of $815.3 million. The department will carry out additional grading and paving on Route 108 in 2018-19.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s $688 million capital budget reflects the government’s priority to invest strategically in its buildings, highways and bridges. Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the province’s framework for growing the economy and creating jobs.
