MIRAMICHI (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant participated in a summit hosted by AFMNB, and the Union of Municipalities on Nov. 13 and 14, in Miramichi.

“Our economy depends on collaboration between all partners and stakeholders and we want to work with all regions on job creation,” said Gallant. “This summit will serve as a catalyst for better coordination when it comes to economic development in New Brunswick.”

A group of New Brunswick stakeholders were invited to attend the summit to find innovative ways to collaborate and develop a sustainable province. The summit encouraged discussion on key issues facing economic developers and community planners, and validated and prioritized potential solutions.

In 2014, the Association francophone des municipalités du Nouveau-Brunswick initiated a provincial consultation tour of regions to engage people who are interested in the development of their region. The workshops identified common issues. The results of the tour and the recommendations were presented at the summit.

“This summit was an excellent opportunity to bring together New Brunswick’s key economic development partners,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny. “Our government will continue to work with municipalities to help our communities succeed, while looking at ways we can collaborate to develop new ideas and innovative ways to grow our provincial economy.”

A series of Opportunities Summits are taking place around the province to identify new prospects for creating jobs and economic growth. The opportunities identified will be reviewed and evaluated as part of an economic action plan for the province.
