FREDERICTON (GNB) – Ice-fishing shelters must be removed from all provincial waterways by March 6.

“I encourage ice fishers to enjoy our waterways responsibly, but they are reminded to remove their shelters before they become an environmental hazard,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny. “Although the last day is March 6, shelter owners are encouraged to monitor the weather and remove their structures before it becomes unsafe.”

Waste and debris resulting from poor site management or failure to remove shelters before spring break-up pose a risk to waterways.

The department encourages all New Brunswickers to be responsible stewards of the environment and to report any infraction of environmental regulations.
