FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is developing a new water strategy beginning with a series of consultations with the public.

“As New Brunswickers, we are fortunate to enjoy good water quality,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny. “Water is an essential element to society, the environment and the economy. Developing a provincial water strategy provides a foundation for enhanced water resource protection and management.”

The provincial government will engage stakeholders, the public and First Nations in a consultation process to share how water is protected and managed as well as to hear the views of New Brunswickers about how to improve and to plan water protection.

Workshops and open houses will be held in the following communities:

  • Grand Falls, Monday, March 14;
  • Bathurst, Tuesday, March 15;
  • Miramichi, Wednesday, March 16;
  • Moncton, Thursday, March 17;
  • Saint John, Monday, March 21; and
  • Fredericton, Wednesday, March 23.

Online submissions will also be accepted through the department’s website. All comments collected will be summarized in a What Was Heard document, which will be posted on the department’s website and used to inform the strategy.
