EEL RIVER CROSSING (GNB) – Construction has begun on a major project to extend water and wastewater infrastructure in Eel River Crossing, which is creating more jobs for New Brunswickers.

The Gas Tax Fund project, estimated at more than $3 million, involves extending the water and wastewater infrastructure from the old village limit to serve Dundee, which is now part of Eel River Crossing.

“We are excited to see the construction begin on this large project,” said Restigouche West MLA Gilles LePage. “This is creating local jobs and ensuring effective wastewater disposal while preserving the health and safety of residents and the environment for years to come.”

LePage attended the event for Environment and Local Government Minister Serge Rousselle.

New and extended wastewater collection services will be connected to the Dalhousie wastewater treatment facility and will be offered to more than 60 residences. The work is expected to be completed by this fall.

“The extension of these services addresses a pressing infrastructure need and represents a significant step forward in providing a sustainable future for the village and its residents,” said Eel River Crossing Mayor Denis Savoie.

The annual $2-billion federal Gas Tax Fund provides predictable, long-term funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize their local infrastructure while creating jobs and long-term prosperity. Projects are chosen locally and prioritized according to the infrastructure needs of each community. These projects improve communities, and the resulting jobs contribute to the local economy.
