FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government will issue a new Class 1 air quality approval for Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd.’s Reversing Falls mill complex in Saint John.

The company's current approval expires on May 31, with the new one taking effect on June 1. The approval follows consultations that included a public review from Nov. 7, 2016, to April 1, 2017.

Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. operates a complex that consists of a kraft pulp mill that has a production rate of about 1,000 air-dry tonnes per day, and a tissue mill that has a production rate of about 200 machine-dry tonnes per day.

This information, along with approval conditions, may be viewed on the Department of Environment and Local Government website or at any of the department’s regional offices.

Class 1 major industries are required to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act, and to operate under the terms and conditions established in the approval to operate.
