BATHURST (GNB) – Three water and wastewater infrastructure projects worth more than $1 million have been completed in northern New Brunswick.

“Infrastructure investments for essential services like clean drinking water and reliable wastewater services contribute to economic growth, a clean environment and stronger communities,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Andrew Harvey. “Your government is getting things done in areas that are a priority for New Brunswickers. These investments will have a lasting positive impact on the quality of life of all residents.”

Water and wastewater infrastructure was improved in Bathurst along Dumaresque Street, Murray Avenue and Bridge Street. The Town of Beresford replaced its water and sanitary sewer systems on Maurice Street and Luc Street. In Pointe-Verte, the existing stormwater collection system was improved with a new storm sewer in the du Parc Street West area.

“By investing in water and wastewater infrastructure, the Government of Canada is supporting Canada’s ongoing transition to a clean, sustainable-growth economy and creating well-paying middle-class jobs,” said Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier. “We are proud to support these infrastructure projects that provide efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions to improve the quality of life for New Brunswick residents.”

Cormier commented for federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister Amarjeet Sohi.

The provincial government is investing more than $270,000 and the federal government is contributing more than $540,000 to these projects through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. The municipal governments of Bathurst, Beresford and Pointe-Verte are providing the balance of the funding for their respective projects.

This investment is part of a federal-provincial agreement for clean water and wastewater treatment.
