BELLEISLE (GNB) – An investment of $200,000 for upgrades will allow the community pool in Belleisle to reopen, providing residents with year-round access to the facility.

“Our government is making timely investments in infrastructure projects to ensure responsible upgrades can protect important community facilities like the Belleisle community pool,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Andrew Harvey. “We are committed to supporting our communities and helping them achieve their key priorities.”

The investment comes from the federal Gas Tax Fund and involves the purchase and installation of a dehumidification unit, pool equipment, roofing shingles and siding, as well as electrical upgrades and interior painting. The pool has been closed since 2014.

“Investing in infrastructure projects like the Belleisle community pool is essential to providing greater access to healthy lifestyles, long-term economic growth and middle-class jobs,” said New Brunswick Southwest MP Karen Ludwig. “The Government of Canada is proud to help make this project a reality, which will enable residents to enjoy an improved quality of life by staying active in the pool all year round.”

Ludwig attended for federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

“Belleisle is a vibrant rural community, and this recreational and educational facility will help strengthen the community,” said Harvey. “These necessary upgrades will ensure that the pool can be enjoyed for years to come by the entire community.”

The annual, $2-billion, federal Gas Tax Fund provides predictable, long-term funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize their local infrastructure while creating jobs and long-term prosperity. Projects are chosen locally and prioritized according to the infrastructure needs of each community.
