FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government will issue a new Class 1 air quality approval for Connors Bros. Clover Leaf Seafoods Co. for its fish processing plant (Plant #10) and fishmeal plant (Plant #21) in Blacks Harbour.

The company’s current approval expires on April 14 with the new approval taking effect on April 15. The approval follows a public consultation that ran between Oct. 15, 2018 and Feb. 12, 2019.

The facility, commonly known as Connor Bros., smokes and cans herring in Plant #10 and uses herring waste to produce finished fishmeal product for use in agriculture and aquaculture feeds in Plant #21. Both plants are in the same building.

The information, along with the new approval, can be viewed on the Department of Environment and Local Government website or at any regional office of the department.

Class 1 industrial facilities are required to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act, and to operate under the terms and conditions established in the approval to operate.
