FREDERICTON (GNB) – Free well-water testing for New Brunswick residents affected by this year’s flooding will end on Aug. 31.

“It is important for people who were directly affected by high water levels in April or May to have their well water tested if they have not yet done so,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Jeff Carr. “Those eligible for free bacterial testing of their well water should take advantage of this program to ensure that their drinking water is safe and clean.”

After Aug. 31, people who want their water tested will have to pay a fee. To date, 661 water samples have been analyzed since the testing program began May 7.

Water sampling kits can still be picked up at designated Service New Brunswick centres in Fredericton, Burton, Chipman, Sussex, Hampton and Saint John or at the Research and Productivity Council (RPC) office in Fredericton.

Water samples are sent to the RPC laboratory for testing and results are made available to the owners of the private wells.
