FREDERICTON (GNB) – A proposed amendment to the Fish and Wildlife Act will allow New Brunswick-born serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP to apply for draws and obtain hunting, fishing and trapping licences the same as any New Brunswick resident regardless of where they live or serve.

The amendment was introduced today by Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud.

"The provincial government is pleased to propose this change in the residency requirements in recognition of the tremendous service that members of the RCMP and the Canadian Armed Forces provide to all Canadians as well as the frequent requirement they must leave their native province to fulfil their duties,'' said Robichaud. "This proposed change will extend to New Brunswick-born Armed Forces' and RCMP members rights such as being able to apply to fish on Crown reserve waters or take part in the annual resident moose draw.''

Under the current provisions of the Fish and Wildlife Act, only individuals who reside in New Brunswick or were born and own real property in New Brunswick can obtain resident licences.
