FREDERICTON (GNB) – Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard spoke today at the Global Resource Investment Conference in Shenzhen, China as part of a three-day mission to promote investment and trade opportunities in energy and mines.

“With the future growth of our province's economy in mind, we are here to strengthen our relationships with current Chinese investors and to meet with industry leaders on the potential for additional investment throughout New Brunswick,” said Leonard.

Earlier in the day, Leonard spoke to industry leaders of energy and mining investment firms at the conference. The delegation from the Department of Energy and Mines also met with industry representatives after the conference.

Chinese investors have expressed interest in New Brunswick's natural resource sector, particularly in energy and mining. The visit to China is an extension of the provincial government's mission to Asia, following last week's segment in India.

“Keeping the lines of communication open through international networking supports our government's goal of pursuing the safe and responsible development of our resources in order to rebuild the economy and create jobs,” said Leonard.

Throughout the day's discussions, Leonard promoted New Brunswick an ideal place for China to invest in the energy and mining sectors, considering the province's diverse geology and its proven history of mineral deposits.

The delegation will continue discussions with industry representatives in Shenzhen on Dec. 10. On Dec. 11 they will visit the Hong Kong Stock Exchange for additional investment meetings.
