FREDERICTON (GNB) – Members of the provincial government will participate in the 38th Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers, taking place in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire on July 14.
“Building strong connections with partners across the region is part of our province’s plan for creating jobs and making life better in New Brunswick communities,” said Premier David Alward. “This is an opportunity to build the foundation for a better future across our region and here at home.”
Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard will attend the conference on behalf of Alward.
This year’s conference, Partnering for an Innovation Economy, will explore ways in which innovation can grow economic opportunities in the region.
The conference will provide a valuable forum to exchange views and information on key issues with the Atlantic provinces and Québec and the New England states.
“New Brunswick has a proven track record as being a secure and reliable partner to the New England states, particularly in the energy sector," said Leonard. “I am looking forward to exploring opportunities for growth and partnership with the conference’s delegates. Individually, our regions can succeed, but together, we can truly thrive."
The Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers is an inter-regional, bi-national, trans-border organization established in 1973 in recognition of the bond that exists between the six New England states and the five Eastern Canadian provinces. Its members are the governors and the premiers of those states and provinces. The meetings are held alternately in New England and Eastern Canada. The last meeting was held in La Malbaie, Québec in 2013.
