SAINT-HONORÉ-DE-TÉMISCOUATA, Que. (GNB) – The provincial government will take part in a conference entitled Towards the Future of Energy – A Green, Sustainable and Ecoresponsible Approach as part of its overall participation in the 2014 World Acadian Congress.

Participants from the Department of Energy and Mines and NB Power will represent the province. Delegates from Quebec, as well as stakeholders from the public, private and community sectors will also participate. Participants will share ideas on the challenges of sustainable development and different sources of renewable energy.

“This conference provides a unique opportunity to gain a collective understanding of emerging technologies as they relate to the energy needs of New Brunswickers,” said Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard. “It also allows our province to showcase some of the innovative tools and technology that we are implementing to put more green energy on New Brunswick’s power grid, such as Smart Grid Technology and the Reduce and Shift Demand initiative.”

The two-day conference will bring together international participants, youth, First Nations, and the general public to learn about the renewable and sustainable energy sector. The provincial government will participate in a panel on the state of renewable energy in the region, including the various policies in place to ensure the integration of renewable energy sources into the electrical system.

The event is a unique opportunity for the public to gain information on energy diversity and to interact with representatives from the provincial government and neighbouring energy sectors involved in sustainable and renewable energy.

“The provincial government is continuing to work in collaboration with Quebec as well as Maine, through the Northeastern International Committee on Energy, on a number of energy related issues, including current and ongoing challenges around the development of renewable of energy,” added Leonard. “The World Acadian Congress is a wonderful venue for us all to gather and not only celebrate culture, but also work together towards a sustainable energy future.”
