FREDERICTON (GNB) – An increase in the deer population in Wildlife Management Zone 3 will allow for a limited antlered deer hunt this season from Oct. 5 to Nov. 8. Hunting has not been allowed in this zone since 1993.

“As a government, we have a responsibility to ensure there is balance between wildlife conservation efforts and hunting in the province,” said Natural Resources Minister Denis Landry. “Research provided by the Northern New Brunswick Quality Deer Management group suggests the deer population has rebounded which is why I am pleased to reinstate a limited deer hunting season in Wildlife Management Zone 3 which is located in northwestern New Brunswick.”

The antlered deer hunting season will consist of a three-week archery season followed by a two-week gun season. This practice follows the other Wildlife Management Zones with a similar deer population.

Hunting licences can be obtained at all Service New Brunswick locations.
