SAINT JOHN (GNB) – A second Economic Opportunities Summit on energy was held in Saint John on Monday.

“Your government understands that identifying opportunities for responsible development in the energy sector contributes to economic growth and job creation to the benefit of all New Brunswickers,” said Energy and Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet. “In partnership with stakeholders, we are paving the way for New Brunswick’s energy future through strategic investments in technology and innovation.”

Summit participants included representatives from Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn, Saint John Energy, and the Regional Development Corporation.

“What was really encouraging is that there was progress made,” said Pierre Mullin, ‎software development executive with Siemens Canada. “A lot of the output from the last summit was turned into action items, and there was a broad consensus from the people in the room that those were the right action items.”

Discussions focused on actions implemented over the past year, including the creation of the New Brunswick Energy Solutions Corporation, encouraging smart grid technology, and leveraging the province’s location in order to export energy.

The event was a followup to a previous summit held to identify new prospects for job creation and economic growth.
