Crown Lands - Reserved Roads

Overview
A Crown Reserved Road (CRR) is a narrow strip of land, usually 20.1 metres (66 feet) in width, located between or within granted or reconveyed Crown Lands and reserved by the Crown for access to and from other granted lands or Crown Lands. In some cases, portage roads, forest roads, old military roads and some old public highways may be CRR. In many cases, no actual roads were ever built on the reserved lands.
Eligibility
The Minister can dispose of CRRs not required to provide access to Crown Lands and resources, or private lands.
- Applicants must be at least 19 years of age.
- In order to apply for the disposal of a Crown Reserved Road you must be an adjacent landowner of the Crown Reserved Road.
Anyone can apply to construct on a Crown Reserved Road. You do not need to be an adjacent landowner. Permission to construct on a Crown Reserved Road will be given when:
- The CRR is identified on the ground through survey;
- The CRR is clear of unauthorized occupations or unauthorized occupations are resolved; and
- The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure approves the access point onto the Provincial highway.
Description
Disposal: This department can dispose of CRRs not required to provide access to Crown Lands and resources, or private lands. CRRs are disposed of via a Grant or by Discontinuance. This department will determine the appropriate method of disposal.
Grant: Crown Reserved Roads will be granted when it is shown that all adjacent properties have viable legal access.
Discontinuance: Crown Reserved Roads will only be discontinued when:
• it cannot be surveyed on the ground;
• it is shown that all adjacent properties have viable legal access; and
• it is shown that the discontinuance will not result in encroachments by adjacent landowners.
Construct a Road: Permission to construct on a Crown Reserved Road will be given when:
• The CRR is identified on the ground through survey;
• The CRR is clear of unauthorized occupations or unauthorized occupations are resolved; and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure approves the access point onto the Provincial highway.
