FREDERICTON (CNB) – Léo-Paul Pinet has been appointed president of the New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation, effective immediately. Social Development Minister Sue Stultz announced the appointment today.

"We are pleased that Léo-Paul Pinet has agreed to be president of the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation," said Stultz. "His experience in the non-profit sector, coupled with his dynamic leadership skills, will play a key role as we deliver on the commitments in the province's poverty reduction strategy, Overcoming Poverty Together: The New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Plan."

Pinet has been a leader in the social and economic development of francophone communities, particularly in the Acadian Peninsula, for more than 30 years. He is executive-director of the Centre de bénévolat de la Péninsule acadienne and a former president of Entreprise Péninsule, the economic development agency of the Acadian Peninsula.

He served as a co-chair of the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation and was a co-chair of the team that established the poverty reduction plan.

"It is an honour to be asked to lead the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation," said Pinet. "I look forward to working with New Brunswickers from all walks of life to implement the province's poverty reduction plan. A great deal of good work has been accomplished so far, and much more remains to be done through this unique New Brunswick approach."

A search will begin immediately to find Pinet's replacement as the corporation’s co-chair representing community non-profit organizations.

The Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation consists of a 22-member board of directors representing government, business, community non-profit and persons having experienced poverty. It oversees and co-ordinates the implementation of the poverty reduction plan.
