FREDERICTON (GNB) – Applications for the 2014 Low-Income Seniors' Benefit are now available.

“This benefit is just one of the ways our government supports the seniors of New Brunswick,” said Finance Minister Blaine Higgs. “The $400 low-income seniors benefit provided assistance for more than 40,500 seniors in 2013, totalling more than $16.2 million in payments.”

To be eligible for the benefit, a person must have been a resident of New Brunswick on Dec. 31, 2013, and have received one of the following federal benefits under the Old Age Security Act:

●    Guaranteed Income Supplement (65 years or older);
●    Allowance for Survivor Program (between 60 and 64 years old); or
●    Allowance Program (between 60 and 64 years old).

“Our government recognizes there are seniors in the province with a limited income,” said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. “I encourage eligible low-income seniors to take advantage of this benefit that was created especially for them.”

Applications are now available at Service New Brunswick centres and online at both the Department of Finance and Service New Brunswick websites. Completed applications may be returned to the Department of Finance, P.O. Box 3000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5G5, before Nov. 30, 2014.
