FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation enthusiastically welcomes the Tuition Access Bursary for post-secondary education for low-income and middle-class individuals announced by Premier Brian Gallant.
The program will offer direct, non-repayable assistance to students whose gross family income is $60,000 or less and who are enrolled in publicly funded college or university (undergraduate) programs in New Brunswick.
“This new program will help reduce the financial obstacles to post-secondary education by making it more accessible and affordable,” said Monique Richard, chair of the corporation’s board of directors. “By facilitating access to post-secondary education, the provincial government is making a tangible contribution to breaking the cycle of poverty. The corporation’s board commends the government for developing this program, which will affect many of our province’s future leaders.”
In addition, students will only have to submit a single application, and Student Financial Services will be able to determine eligibility for the Tuition Access Bursary and other assistance funding options possible.
The new program fits in well with the second pillar of Overcoming Poverty Together: The New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Plan 2014-2019, which deals with learning and preparation for the labour market.
