FREDERICTON (CNB) - Carmel Robichaud, minister responsible for the Community Non-Profit Organizations Secretariat, announced today that Nicole Smith will be joining the secretariat as executive director effective May 12.

Smith is currently executive director of Sport New Brunswick, a non-profit volunteer organization representing 60 sport and sport-related organizations in New Brunswick.

"With her experience in the non-profit sector, both as a leader and as a volunteer, Nicole Smith will be a valuable member of our executive team in the secretariat," Robichaud said. "She will be a great asset in our efforts to revitalize and develop the partnership between the non-profit sector and government."

Smith has extensive experience in leadership roles in the non-profit sector, serving as the executive director for the New Brunswick Trails Council, Alpine Ski New Brunswick, and as executive director of Sport New Brunswick since 2002. In addition to experience in both the private and public sector, she earned her master of science degree from Pennsylvania State University, and her undergraduate degree from UNB.

"I am excited by the opportunity to take on this new challenge," Smith said. "I look forward to working with Minister Robichaud and the secretariat on the work plan set out in Delivering on the Blueprint."
