FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier-designate Brian Gallant said the government caucus will vote to grant the Green Party of New Brunswick official party status in the legislative assembly of New Brunswick.

The announcement comes after a meeting between Gallant and Green Party leader David Coon.

“Having a third party recognized in the legislature is a great example of New Brunswick’s healthy and vibrant democracy,” Gallant said. “David will be a strong voice for his constituents and will contribute greatly to the debate in the people’s house.”

The designation as a recognized party will require a vote of the legislature.

Gallant would also support funding for the Green Party consistent with what the New Democratic Party received when it had a member elected. The legislative administration committee will have to ratify funding for the party.
