FREDERICTON (GNB) – The first part of the provincial government’s plan to accelerate economic growth and job creation in New Brunswick was released today. The document is entitled New Brunswick’s Economic Growth Plan: Why growth is imperative.

“When we look at the research and the statistics, it is clear why New Brunswick needs an economic growth plan,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry. “The recent positive trends are proof of the steady gains in the economy, but there is more we can do and will do. Now is the time for us to take bold steps and work together to find solutions to the challenges we are facing.”

The plan outlines five main themes:

  • people – growing the provincial workforce;
  • innovation – growing capacity for idea generation and innovation;
  • capital – growing private-sector investment;
  • infrastructure – fostering investment from the public and private sectors in strategic infrastructure; and
  • agility – fostering agility and nimbleness in the public sector and across the economy.

The plan is the outcome of consultations with leaders from across the province during the 22 Opportunity Summits that were held between September 2015 and April 2016.

“The Opportunity Summits were an important component in the development of the economic growth plan,” said Landry. “It is only by working together that we will create jobs and grow New Brunswick’s economy.”

Landry said the full plan will be released in the coming weeks.
