FREDERICTON (GNB) – Members of the commission on electoral reform are preparing to meet with stakeholders and experts in the new year.

The commission held preliminary meetings to discuss a number of items, including the establishment of a code of conduct for commission members, as well as the development of a preliminary list of stakeholders and subject matter experts with whom they would like to meet.

“As a commission, we are tasked with assessing a number of electoral reform matters, including preferential ballots, online voting, and the voting age,” said commission member Carolyn MacKay. “We look forward to hearing from stakeholders and experts on these topics over the coming weeks, so that we can provide recommendations to the government in March.”

The commission will host meetings on the following dates:

• Wednesday, Jan. 4

• Friday, Jan. 6

• Monday, Jan. 9

• Friday, Jan. 13

• Monday, Jan. 16

• Friday, Jan. 20

• Monday, Jan. 23

• Friday, Jan. 27

These meetings will be open to the public. Specific times and locations are to be determined.

The commission on electoral reform was formed in November. Its members are Carolyn MacKay, Bev Harrison, Gaétane Johnson, Jason Alcorn and Constantine Passaris.
