FREDERICTON (GNB) – Public meetings are being held the first week of April as part of a post-action review report of the ice storm that hit the province in January.

Judy Wagner, Clerk of the Executive Council and head of the public service, is leading the review. Her report with recommendations is to be completed by July. It will be supported by internal reviews undertaken by the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization, NB Power and officials from the Department of Health, as well as stakeholder feedback.

Dates and locations for the public meetings are as follows:

  • April 2, 2 p.m. – Polyvalente W.-A.-Losier, 585 de l’église St., Tracadie
  • April 3, 6:30 p.m. – Town Hall, 9235 Main St., Richibucto
  • April 4, 6:30 p.m. – Kinsmen Club, 100 Newcastle Blvd., Miramichi
  • April 5, 6:30 p.m. – Club d’age d’Or, 62 de l’école St., Lamèque
  • April 6, 6:30 p.m. – Club d’age d’Or, 8265 de l’église St., Bas Caraquet

The format for the 90-minute public sessions involves group discussions, which will revolve around ideas and suggestions in response to the ice storm. If required, additional time will be added to the sessions.

From January 24 to 26, an ice storm hit central and eastern New Brunswick, from Miscou Island to Sackville, with the major impact being widespread power outages. The storm resulted in high winds and ice build-up on transmission and electricity lines. At the peak of the storm, more than 130,000 customers were without power in the province.
