FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is seeking public comments on the rental situation in New Brunswick.

Until April 7, renters, landlords and developers are invited to submit their personal stories and experiences, both positive and negative, about navigating through the rental system in the province.

To better understand the factors at play within the current New Brunswick rental housing landscape, the provincial government will be:

• collecting market and rental data to assess the current situation as well as short and long-term trends;

• looking at what is happening in other jurisdictions; and

• talking with New Brunswickers and stakeholder groups within the province.

Public submissions will be accepted through the website www.gnb.ca/rentals. Answers will be submitted anonymously.

New Brunswick renters who would like to share their experiences, but require an alternate way to participate, can phone 211 to receive support in completing the survey.

The government will also be seeking feedback from impacted stakeholder groups during the review.

The review is being carried out by an inter-departmental group of public servants from the Department of Finance and Treasury Board, Service New Brunswick, Opportunities NB, the Department of Environment and Local Government, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Justice and Public Safety, the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation and the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour. The goal of this collaboration is to put the needs of residents first when it comes to affordable, safe and accessible housing.
