Property tax certificates available online (08/11/21)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - New Brunswickers will be able to order property tax certificates online beginning Nov. 28. The website address will be www.gnb.ca/Finance.

The new service will replace the current 1-900 interactive voice system and will offer improved service. Certificates may still be obtained in person through a walk-in request at Service New Brunswick centres or by mail to the Department of Finance.

The new service will allow applicants to request up to 10 certificates at one time. As with the telephone service, the fee will be $20 for each certificate request. The fee for a certificate requested in writing or through Service New Brunswick will continue to be $25.

To order a property tax certificate, applicants will need to provide the requestor's name, e-mail address, contact phone number, an eight-digit property account number, and a Visa or MasterCard number. In most cases, orders for certificates will be processed and sent by e-mail immediately upon the successful completion of the transaction.

The Department of Finance handles about 12,000 applications for certificates each year to determine if any property tax liens have been placed on properties. Law firms and financial institutions normally request these certificates to facilitate property transfers or other financial purposes.
