FREDERICTON (GNB) – Finance Minister Roger Melanson will participate in the federal, provincial and territorial finance ministers meeting being held in Ottawa on Dec. 20-21.

“I look forward to a constructive relationship with the new federal minister and my provincial and territorial colleagues,” said Melanson. “These meetings will allow us to have important discussions about our respective economic and fiscal challenges and budget priorities.”

The agenda for the meeting will include:

  • a presentation by Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz on the global economy and Canadian monetary policy;
  • federal, provincial and territorial priorities;
  • the Canada Pension Plan;
  • the Canada Child Benefit;
  • infrastructure; and
  • other issues.

“New Brunswick shares a number of common priorities with the federal government, including infrastructure investments and long-term funding for health care,” said Melanson. “Our government is supportive of further work on potential options to enhance the Canada Pension Plan, but we must recognize the state of the economy as part of these discussions, which I will raise during the meetings.”
