FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has signed a collective agreement with Local 1253 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

This group includes about 1,700 school bus drivers, custodians, maintenance and repair staff, forepersons and other tradespeople working in the province’s seven school districts.

“This is great news, and I thank the two negotiating teams for reaching this agreement,” said Treasury Board President Roger Melanson. “This illustrates our commitment to ensuring the government treats its employees with fairness by respecting the collective bargaining process.”

Melanson noted that this is the 20th collective agreement signed by the government since October 2014.

The five-year contract includes annual wage increases of one per cent.
