FREDERICTON (CNB) – The provincial government will provide financial assistance to a cultural performance known as l'Acadie des terres et forêts (Acadia of lands and forests), to be presented this summer at the Parc de la République, Edmundston (Saint-Jacques), for the tenth consecutive season.

Health Minister Madeleine Dubé announced a contribution of $75,000 on behalf of Tourism and Parks and Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Trevor Holder.

"The provincial government, through the Department of Tourism and Parks, the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport, is proud to sponsor this regional performance of importance to the Edmundston community," said Dubé. "In addition to contributing to the cultural development of the area, the show will highlight young talent and provide them with an exceptional opportunity for artistic enrichment."

L'Acadie des terres et forêts was created in 2002 by artist, educator and producer Étienne Deschènes, and it is presented every year to introduce the local culture to visitors and residents of the Edmundston area. The show has been performed more than 350 times and has been seen by about 200,000 spectators. It will be an important element of the celebrations of the 2014 World Acadian Congress.
