FREDERICTON (GNB) – As part of the World Acadian Congress, the symposium L’Acadie dans tous ses défis got under way Aug. 11.

Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé attended the opening presentation entitled Autonomie et/ou gouvernance en Acadie du 21e siècle, which was presented by sociologist Joseph Yvon Thériault.

“This symposium gives Acadians the opportunity to discuss major issues regarding their development,” said Dubé. “These research-focused discussions show that the Acadian people know how to be innovative and open. I am pleased that the World Acadian Congress gives participants the opportunity to share their success stories while stimulating ideas.”

The symposium also boasts distinguished speakers and continues until Aug. 14. The topics of discussion are varied, with the main ones being Acadian history, arts and culture, identity, governance, and education.

The World Acadian Congress will run until Aug. 24. This large gathering is taking place in three areas New Brunswick, Quebec and Maine.
