FREDERICTON (GNB) – The 2014 Grand Youth Rally got under way as part of the World Acadian Congress on Aug. 12.

Environment and Local Government Minister Danny Soucy will be taking part in the rally's banquet in Grand Falls on Aug. 16 on behalf of Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Marie-Claude Blais.

“Our government is pleased to see more than 250 young people gather together to discuss and debate issues that affect them directly,” said Soucy. “I want to emphasize that young people are important in New Brunswick because they represent one of our greatest resources.”

The rally offers programming that focuses on three main themes: arts and culture, leadership, and politics. Young people from across Canada, the United States, France and Belgium will discuss current issues affecting Acadian and Francophone youth.

“The gathering gives me a great sense of pride because our young people are tomorrow's leaders in fields ranging from business to politics,” Blais said. “I would encourage them to reach for their goals and never stop dreaming. Our government will continue to maintain a dialogue with these young people and support them in their endeavours.”

The Grand Youth Rally runs until Aug. 17. It takes place primarily in Pohénégamook, Quebec and in Grand Falls and Edmundston, New Brunswick.
