GRAND FALLS (GNB) – The provincial government renewed its cooperation agreement with the Département de la Vienne, France, for a period of five years.

"We are very pleased with this agreement which marks 30 years of friendship and cooperation between New Brunswick and the Département de la Vienne,” said Premier David Alward. “This agreement fits in well with our plan to create jobs and improve the quality of life within our communities since it is based on a meaningful partnership and the development of new markets."

The event took place today at Grand Falls town hall in conjunction with World Acadian Congress celebrations. Alward and Denis Brunet, the vice-president in charge of international relations with the General Council of the Département de la Vienne, renewed the agreement.

The main areas of cooperation covered by the agreement – which has been in effect since 1983 – are tourism, culture, the economy, education and training.

The Département de la Vienne is the province’s most important decentralized cooperation partner, particularly in the area of university and college exchanges involving the Université de Moncton, University of New Brunswick, and the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick.
