GRAND FALLS (GNB) – The provincial government has signed a cooperation agreement with the State of Louisiana.

“It is an honour for our province to join Louisiana in signing this first official cooperation agreement,” said Premier David Alward. “I am certain this will foster productive exchanges, especially in the fields of education, culture, and tourism between our two regions.” 

Alward and Louisiana State Senator Eric Kenneth Lafleur signed the agreement at Grand Falls town hall in conjunction with the World Acadian Congress.

The agreement helps reinforce ties between New Brunswick and its most important foreign economic partner, the United States.

Governments of both jurisdictions agreed to officially establish bilateral relations in response to a growing interest from New Brunswick's Acadian and Louisiana's Cajun communities. The main areas of cooperation are school and university exchanges, culture, and tourism.

The Louisiana delegation is at the congress and has a booth set up at the World Expo in Grand Falls.
