FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Women’s Summit, held within the framework of the World Acadian Congress, ended on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

“The Women’s Summit is important to me personally, but it’s also important for our society in general,” said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. “It is vital that we gather everyone together in order to take stock of equality between men and women and the place of women in our communities. The summit allowed us to do that, and that is why I am pleased to have participated on behalf of our government.”

Dubé attended the summit on behalf of Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Marie-Claude Blais, who is also the minister responsible for Women’s Equality.

Dubé delivered a speech at the opening conference at the Edmundston Convention Centre on Sunday, Aug. 17. During the conference, panellists Lyse Doucet, Alexa Conradi and Aldéa Landry discussed the representation and participation of women in the decision-making process.

The summit is an international event organized by and for women to debate issues and matters of concern to them.

“I am confident that the Women’s Summit will follow up on a number of worthwhile discussions and exchanges between the organizations working for women, the Voices of New Brunswick Women Forum and the provincial government,” said Blais. “Our government is committed to working with the women of New Brunswick, to representing their interests and listening to their concerns.”

The summit was held in Edmundston from Aug. 17 to 19, with the theme Partout, les femmes décident… les femmes agissent! (everywhere women decide, women act).
