BEIRUT (CNB) - Pierre-André Doucet, an artist from Moncton, presented his news article on Tuesday during literature competitions at the 6th Jeux de la Francophonie in Beirut, Lebanon.
Doucet is the only New Brunswick artist at the games, and jury members and the public were able to appreciate his news article during a question period following his delivery. His news story was about post-traumatic stress disorder and solitude.
The jury will choose the three top news articles amongst the 17 writers and announce the winners on Saturday.
In judo, the three judokas lost by ippon in their first match. Maxime Raymond (Kedgwick) lost to Moha Ghazouani of Tunisia in the third minute of competitions. Okechukwu Ikechukwu (Quispamsis) was the loser to Bog Barbulescu of Roumania in the second minute. Myriam Lamarche (Saint-Quentin) lost to Zouak of France.
In beach volleyball, the women won their two games of the day, while the men lost. Cherie Campbell and Jillian Blanchard won 2-0 against Lebanon (21-13, 21-18) and the Ivory Coast (21-18, 21-7). Corey Akerley and Michael Waugh lost 2-1 to Lebanon (21-16, 18-21 and 11-15).
"I was not nervous before my first-ever public presentation," said Doucet. "It was not any different than my recitals or piano concerts. My lecture went well even thought it was a text to read and not to listen to. I had good comments from jury members, and I will now wait for the results, which will be announced on Saturday morning."
