BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNB) - Cherie Campbell of Fredericton and Jillian Blanchard of Saint John beat the Seychelles 2-0 to take third place in their division and finish with a 3-2 record in beach volleyball competitions at the 6th Games of la Francophonie in Beirut, Lebanon.

The scores were 21-13 and 21-18, and the duo will play again on Saturday in the playoffs. The opponents will be decided later today. The men's team will play against Canada-Québec on Saturday in the playoffs.

In athletics, Allyson Howatt of Fredericton finished fourth in her 100-m preliminary race, while Nadine Frost of Bocabec was fifth in her race in the 800 m in a time of 2:13.11. Both did not advance.

Adam Kellar of Hampton will race in the 1,500-m final Friday evening, while Adam Black of Saint John will fight in the -81 kg category. He will fight Ludovic Groguhe of France in the last match of the evening.
