FREDERICTON (GNB) – Four young New Brunswick artists will represent team Canada-New Brunswick at the international cultural competition of the VII Games of La Francophonie. The Games will be held Sept. 6-15, 2013, in Nice, France.

"The Games of La Francophonie are an extraordinary experience for our province's young artists,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. "They provide a unique opportunity to represent the province internationally while showcasing their talents and competing against artists from other countries."

Team Canada-New Brunswick will be represented by the following artists:

●    Kevin Arseneau, Moncton, storytelling;
●    Pierre-André Doucet, Moncton, literature;
●    Jaret Belliveau, Moncton, photography; and
●    Sarah Jones, Saint John, painting.

New Brunswick artists between the ages of 18 and 35 were invited to take part in the one of the Games' 11 cultural competitions: street performance (puppet, juggling or hip hop), painting, sculpture, song, storytelling, original dance, literature (short story), photography and digital creation.

The Canadian delegation to the Games is divided into three teams: Canada, Canada-New Brunswick and Canada-Quebec.

"The Games provide young New Brunswick artists and athletes with a unique opportunity to experience another francophone region of the world and enrich their understanding and appreciation of francophone culture," said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud. "As minister responsible for La Francophonie, I am already looking forward to hearing about their many successes."

The Francophonie Games are an international cultural and sporting event held every four years for athletes and artists from member states and governments of La Francophonie. The Games differ from similar events in that they are the only major international games in which sports and cultural activities are presented in a competitive setting.

The athletes representing Team Canada-New Brunswick will be announced in the summer of 2013.
