FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued by Healthy and Inclusive Communities Minister Dorothy Shephard on Team Canada-New Brunswick's showing at the 2013 Games of La Francophonie, in Nice, France:

I congratulate all the athletes and artists who took part in the VIIth Games of La Francophonie. We are all proud of your efforts to represent the province at this international event.

Team Canada-New Brunswick equaled its best-ever results: one silver and five bronze medals. This had not been achieved since 1997, in Madagascar.

Our athletes gave it their all during these games and I applaud these great results.

I also want to congratulate the four artists who represented New Brunswick. Showcasing their work at an international event and getting to meet other artists from around the globe is an enriching experience that will result in new friendships and opportunities in the future. They are wonderful ambassadors of our province's vibrant culture.

Finally, I want to say a big thank you to the coaches, mission staff and volunteers for their support prior to and during the Games of La Francophonie.
